Delaware River Sojourn 2009

The Delaware River Sojourn is an annual event to heighten awareness of, and appreciation for the ecological, historical, recreational, and economic significance of the Delaware River and its tributaries, which flow through New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Delaware. The Sojourn combines canoeing and kayaking, camping, educational programs, historical interpretation, and more. The theme for 2009 was "No One Left inside." Because of the heavy rainfall prior to the Sojourn the River was very high and had about twice the usual volume of water. Hence rafts were used by many participants during the first few days. Below is a collection of pictures from the 2009 Sojourn, days 4 -7, June 24-27. It includes sections of the River from Shawnee, Pennsylvania, to Penn's landing in Philadelphia, where Mayor Nutter of Philadelphia greeted participants.
